Colorado Avalanche Inside Shots
The Avalanche is mired in a four-game losing streak and has fallen two games under .500 at 5-7-0, and the problems run deeper than poor goaltending.

A team that should be able to score plenty of goals has totaled seven in the losing streak heading into Thursday's game against Minnesota at the Pepsi Center.

An Avalanche team that supposedly boasts a solid defense corps has played poorly in front of either Peter Budaj or Andrew Raycroft in net and allowed 18 goals during the streak.

The penalty-killing units have been decent, permitting one power-play goal in the streak, but the power play has gone 2-for-14.

"Obviously, it's not acceptable," captain Joe Sakic said. "We've got to get back to basics and work. It's definitely a low point right now. We've got to fix it ourselves."

Said Budaj: "We have to start winning hockey games. It doesn't matter if it's 20-19 or 1-0. It's a long season, but enough is enough."

BLACKHAWKS 6, AVALANCHE 2: The Avalanche, which has lost four games in a row, offered little resistance in the third period when the Blackhawks broke open the game with four goals Monday night at the United Center.

It was the first game for the Avalanche against former coach Joel Quenneville, who supposedly mutually agreed with general manager Francois Giguere to part company with Colorado in May because of unspecified "philosophical differences."
