Colorado Avalanche Notes, Quotes 2008-11-17
--G Peter Budaj stopped 33 of 35 shots through regulation and overtime against the Oilers, then turned back four of five shots in the shootout for his third consecutive win. Budaj has stopped 90 of 93 shots during the streak, along with six of eight shots in back-to-back shootout wins. He's 3-0 in shootouts this season. "He made some big saves and gave us a chance to win," Avalanche coach Tony Granato said. "We hung around, which was good, and we hung around mostly because of the saves he made."

--LW Darcy Tucker was the hero for the Avalanche, deflecting defenseman Jordan Leopold's shot past Oilers goalie Dwayne Roloson with 10.7 seconds left in the third period to tie the game 1-1. The Avalanche pulled goalie Peter Budaj for a sixth attacker after Edmonton's Fernando Pisani took a hooking penalty with 1:59 to play, and the Avalanche's Marek Svatos drew a tripping penalty from Ethan Moreau while skating down the slot with 24.7 seconds left, giving Colorado a six-on-three advantage. Defenseman Ruslan Salei passed from the right point to the left point to defenseman Jordan Leopold, who took a shot that Tucker got his stick on and directed into the net.

Tucker also scored the decisive goal in the shootout, drilling the puck between Roloson's pads. He was the Avalanche's fifth shooter. Wojtek Wolski also scored in the shootout.

--LW Ryan Smyth finally scored a goal against his former Edmonton teammates. Smyth crashed the net to bang a rebound past Oilers goalie Dwayne Roloson at 11:18 of the first period for his first goal in 10 games against Edmonton since signing with the Avalanche as a free agent on July 1, 2007. The goal was Smyth's fifth of the season and his second in the past 10 games overall.

--It was the 1,000th regular-season game for the Avalanche since the team arrived in Denver from Quebec for the 1995-96 season. The Avalanche has posted a 539-316-145 record in that time.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We knew they were going to be hungry, and we had to make sure that we fed off the last game." -- LW Ryan Smyth, on the Avalanche's 3-2 shootout win over Edmonton.
