Colorado Avalanche Notes, Quotes 2008-11-20
--G Peter Budaj faced a season-high 50 shots and stopped 47 of them. "He was unreal," Avalanche right wing Milan Hejduk said. "He kept us in the game when we probably shouldn't have been in the game." Flames defenseman Adrian Aucoin broke a 1-1 tie with 7:32 to play in the third period when he knocked down a clearing attempt by Hejduk and blasted the puck into the net with a wicked slap shot. "I tried to just lift it, fire it into the neutral zone," Hejduk said. "I didn't hit it hard enough, I guess. I didn't want to ice it."

--The Avalanche spent huge chunks of time hemmed in the defensive zone, unable to clear the puck or to gain possession. The Flames outshot the Avalanche 38-15 over the final two periods and 51-23 for the game, but even that didn't tell the full story. Taking shots on goal, shots that were blocked and missed shots into account, Calgary had a whopping 91-33 advantage in shots that were attempted. "They outworked us, that's the bottom line," Avalanche goalie Peter Budaj said.

--The Avalanche went 0-for-2 on power plays and is 2-for-33 with the man advantage in the last seven games. Colorado has done a good job killing penalties of late, in part because G Peter Budaj has been sharp. The Avalanche killed all eight of Calgary's power plays Tuesday and has thwarted 32 of 35 penalties in the last 10 games.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We didn't respond and react very well. We stood around and we watched them, watched how hard they worked." -- Avalanche coach Tony Granato after Tuesday's 4-1 loss in Calgary
