--G Peter Budaj allowed all six goals Monday on 37 shots, but Avalanche coach Tony Granato absolved him of blame for the lopsided outcome. "Yes, absolutely," Granato said. "We could have put three goalies in net and they wouldn't have stopped some of those shots. (The Blackhawks) worked and we stood around and watched them work."

--The Avalanche seemed in decent shape heading to the third period down by 2-1 but played sloppy defense in front of goalie Peter Budaj and was outworked all over the ice when the Blackhawks scored four times. "The last 30 minutes of the game was pretty tough to watch," coach Tony Granato said.

--D Adam Foote picked up a first-period assist for his first point of the season. He tied Sandis Ozolinsh for the most career assists by a defenseman in Quebec/Colorado franchise history with 181.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We were awful. We embarrassed ourselves. We were terrible all around." -- Captain Joe Sakic on Monday's 6-2 loss to Chicago.
