Colorado Avalanche Roster Report 2008-11-20
GOALTENDERS: Peter Budaj, Andrew Raycroft.

DEFENSEMEN: Brett Clark, Adam Foote, Scott Hannan, Jordan Leopold, John-Michael Liles, Ruslan Salei, Daniel Tjarnqvist.

FIRST LINE: Ryan Smyth, Paul Stastny, Marek Svatos.

SECOND LINE: Wojtek Wolski, T.J. Hensick, Milan Hejduk.

THIRD LINE: Cody McLeod, Tyler Arnason, David Jones.

FOURTH LINE: Darcy Tucker, Cody McCormick, Ian Laperriere.

PLAYER NOTES:

--C Joe Sakic is hoping to play Thursday against Calgary at home. He's missed three games in a row and four of the last five with a back strain. In the one game that Sakic played in this stretch, Nov. 8 against Nashville, he logged 7:19 in ice time in the first period and sat out the rest of the game. The Avalanche will have a better idea as to his availability after practice Wednesday.

--G Peter Budaj has faced 143 shots in his last four starts and has stopped 137 of them for a .958 save percentage. "I feel good," Budaj said. "I'm seeing the puck really well." Budaj has started seven consecutive games and is certain to get the call again Thursday when the Avalanche plays Calgary at the Pepsi Center.

--C Paul Stastny signed a five-year, $33 million contract extension on Nov. 17, a deal that begins next season. Stastny will be paid $6.6 million each season. "It's exciting. I'm still speechless," said Stastny, 22, who leads the Avalanche in scoring with 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) in 17 games. "I haven't really grasped what I've done. The hard work has paid off. It happened early in the year, so I don't have to worry about it. I know I'm part of a winning organization that wants me to be there for the next five years. I feel the same way about them."

MEDICAL WATCH:

--C Joe Sakic (back strain) was injured in practice Nov. 5 and is day to day. He didn't accompany the Avalanche on a three-game road trip that ended Tuesday in Calgary, remaining in Denver to take treatment. He has been skating, is said to be improving, and it's possible he could play Thursday at home against the Flames.

--C Ben Guite (ribs) was injured in practice Nov. 10 and is out indefinitely, but he has been doing some skating.
