YEAR WEEK W-L-OL RANK COMMENT
2007-08 Week 1 2-1-0 5 Paul Stastny has four goals and eight points in three games for the Avalanche -- a surprising early story line in Colorado given the offseason arrivals of Scott Hannan and Ryan Smyth. Will Smyth and Milan Hejduk be the magic line for the Avs this season?
2007-08 Week 2 4-2-0 5 The Avs are scoring (10th in the NHL with 3.20 goals per game), Paul Stastny is continuing to put up points and the Avs are showing a little more chutzpah after their come-from-behind win against the Flames on Tuesday.
2007-08 Week 3 5-4-0 9 Did anyone tell Ryan Smyth there's no crying in hockey? No crying!
2007-08 Week 4 7-4-0 7 Outside of the Flyers, the Avs are the only club not to drop a game (regulation or in extra time) at home. The last time the Avs opened the season with such a run at home? Joe Sakic was wearing a Nordiques jersey. Three straight wins, but just one power-play goal over that span (1-for-11).
2007-08 Week 5 9-5-0 5 Jose Theodore may have won his third straight start Monday night, but the Avalanche insist there will be no Goalie-Gate between the former league MVP and Peter Budaj. How do you think that will turn out?
2007-08 Week 6 11-5-1 4 Joe Sakic has only one goal in his last 11 games, but the Avalanche are still finding ways to win. Heading into Wednesday's action, they were within four points of Detroit for the West lead and held a three-point edge in the Northwest.
2007-08 Week 7 11-8-1 11 The Avalanche are thankful for games at the Pepsi Center. Those road trips are another story.
2007-08 Week 8 12-9-1 15 Things just keep getting worse in Denver. Just one win in the Avs' last five games (vs. Edmonton, no less); a 3-7-1 road record; just one goal from Joe Sakic in 12 games; one in 11 for Ryan Smyth. And Vancouver picking up steam can't help either.
2007-08 Week 9 14-11-1 17 While Marek Svatos and Ian Laperriere will likely return to the lineup this week, captain Joe Sakic is expected to miss more time with a groin injury.
2007-08 Week 10 16-12-1 16 Things seem to be turning the corner a bit for the Avs, who, over the past week, posted back-to-back wins for the first time since Nov. 7.
2007-08 Week 11 19-13-1 14 The Avs have won five of their last six games and Ryan Smyth has eight points over that span. Scott Hannan? He has just one goal in 10 games.
2007-08 Week 12 21-15-3 15 The Avs are starting to really feel the absence of both Joe Sakic (hernia) and Ryan Smyth (ankle).
2007-08 Week 13 22-17-3 17 More bad news (Ryan Smyth's ankle injury), but the Avs did hang tough against the Red Wings this past week.
2007-08 Week 14 25-18-3 18 The Avs faired well on a road trip through the Southeast Division (3-1-0), but how will they be against the West at home?
2007-08 Week 15 26-19-4 18 Paul Stastny was Colorado's lone All-Star bid, but he unfortunately joined Joe Sakic and Ryan Smyth on the injured list.
2007-08 Week 16 26-20-4 18 Colorado's next month will be challenging as 10 of their 14 February games will be on the road; four of the 14 will be against the Wings and Ducks, and Joe Sakic and Ryan Smyth are still on the injured list.
2007-08 Week 17 28-21-5 15 The Avs go back to using Jose Theodore in net this week after he missed three games with back spasms. Before that, he was 6-4-1 with a 1.94 GAA and a .930 save percentage in 11 straight starts.
2007-08 Week 18 30-22-5 13 The Avalanche still are in the West playoff picture, even without Joe Sakic, Ryan Smyth and Paul Stastny. Good news for Colorado fans: Smyth is expected to return this week.
2007-08 Week 19 30-25-5 15 The Avs lose some ground after their losing skid reached four games this past week, but with Joe Sakic and Paul Stastny expected back soon, things could be looking up.
2007-08 Week 20 33-26-6 14 Joe Sakic's back from injury, Peter Forsberg signed on before the deadline and Adam Foote signed on for another Denver stint. Hey! The gang's all here! Where's Blake and Roy? :)
2007-08 Week 21 35-26-6 11 The Avalanche has won five of its past six, and Peter Forsberg is now in the lineup. He'll help make up for the absences of Ryan Smyth and Marek Svatos.
2007-08 Week 22 38-27-6 10 Well, that Peter Forsberg return was short-lived. But amid all of the hoopla, and other injuries to endure, the Avs are 8-2-0 in their past 10 games and are tied for the Northwest lead.
2007-08 Week 23 39-29-6 13 Peter Forsberg is out again, meaning he has played just four games since being signed by the team on Feb. 25.
2007-08 Week 24 40-31-6 17 Can you imagine where this team would be if it actually started scoring, especially on the power play (the Avs are 29th in the NHL at 14.0 percent)?
2007-08 Week 25 43-31-7 13 Peter Forsberg scores his first goal of the season, and the Avs lock up a playoff spot.
